Host Program Activities

English Conversation Circle (ECC) CultureLink was the first agency in Toronto to facilitate English Conversation Circles as a venue for newcomers to practise their spoken English in a social setting. We hold ECCs in west part of the city at accessible public locations, mostly in public libraries. To look for an ECC close to your location and a schedule that fits you, click here

Aerobics Exercise Group Come to join our Host Volunteer Leila Fashkhami who will lead you to explore a healthy and fun way to strengthen your muscle as well as your social network. Great music, graceful movements and friendly chats will guarantee you enjoyable evenings. For new schedule in 2011 please contact Caixia at ext. 209.

NEAT (Newcomers Explore and Appreciate Toronto) Walking Group NEAT is a new project we just started in spring 2010. This project calls for proud Torontonians to volunteer and show the newcomers how great the city is. Newcomer participants benefit from the project by getting to know more about the city they newly moved into, practicing English conversation, and making friends. Together newcomers and volunteers take a pride in being a citizen of the most multicultural city in the world. To learn more and get an up-to-date walking schedule, click here.

Bike Host The Bike Host activity offers an exciting, healthy, convenient and economical choice to a newcomer to integrate into urban life, with the support of an experienced commuter cyclist. This would further enhance green living habits among newcomers to Toronto. If you would like to be a “volunteer bike host” we would love to hear from you! Please e-mails us at: volunteer@culturelink.net or cycling@culturelink.net

Overcoming Barriers Support Group Starting from July 2010, We are inviting you to join our Overcoming Barriers Support Group. How will you benefit? You will have a chance to meet Canadian volunteers and other newcomers. In a small comfortable group setting (usually one volunteer with 2-3 newcomers), your volunteer will help you practice English conversation, talk about issues, help you expand your social and professional network and provide emotional support for you to overcome various settlement barriers. Please talk to Fei at 416-588-6288 ext. 217 to find out more information. CultureLink is a proud partner of the Among Friends Project.
